| The high country of western North Carolina is one of the most biologically and geographically diverse regions in North America. Carved by some of the world’s oldest rivers, the Blue Ridge Mountains provide a home for a variety of exciting outdoor activities such kayaking, whitewater rafting, and tubing.
Three of the most popular areas to explore via raft, kayak, or tube include the Nolichucky River, the Watauga River, and Wilson’s Creek. For most of these outings, you meet at a central gathering place, meet your guides and instructors, and then travel by bus/van to the launch sites. All equipment and lunch is provided by the outfitting company. After the full or a half day of adventure is complete, you are picked up again by bus/van and brought back home. Continuing south on the Parkway leads to Julian Price Park. The 3900-acre park provides picnic grounds, campgrounds, rest rooms, nature walks, an amphitheater, hiking trails, trout fishing and boat rental. Hikers, horseback riders, fisherman, cross country skiers, dog walkers, and bird watchers alike consider the Blue Ridge Parkway one of the greatest treasures of our area. |
