For fine dining, Mary Jane and John recommend the Gamekeeper Restaurant set in an old stone house across from Yonahlossee Resort on Shulls Mill Road. All meats are prepared over a wood-fired grill, and only the finest organic ingredients go into Chef Ken Gordan’s fare. For more casual fare but still great food and ambiance, Mary Jane and John’s current favorite Friday night hangout is Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock. The bar is friendly, the food is great, the wine selection is divine, and they have Stella Artois beer on tap. Todd and Tuesdae Rice cast their vote for the Best Cellar in Blowing Rock for fine dining. The Best Cellar is located on Sunset Drive in downtown Blowing Rock at the Ragged Garden Inn. Food is spectacular and the setting is divine. Casa Rustica in Boone is the restaurant of choice for Edie and Fred Milano. Casa Rustica, featuring Italian/American cuisine, is a long-time favorite of Boone year-round residents. Deborah and Kenneth Kirksey recommend Stonewalls for the best steaks. Stone Walls, a long-time restaurant in Banner Elk, serves premiere prime rib, steaks, and fresh seafood. Bill Aceto and his fiance, Sallie, like the Town Tavern in Boone; Bistro Roca, Woodlands, and Knights on Main in Blowing Rock. If you are looking for something unique to North Carolina, check out Woodlands Barbecue in Blowing Rock. The Woodlands Restaurant specializes in North Carolina barbecue pork and ribs, catering, great food and offers nightly entertainment. The menu also home style Mexican food as well.
