| The area known as the High Country comprises three counties in western North Carolina — Ashe, Avery, and Watauga — and includes Johnson County in eastern Tennessee. The towns of Boone, Blowing Rock, and Valle Crucis are located in Watauga County. Banner Elk, Linville, Sugar Mountain, and Beech Mountain are located in Avery County. Jefferson and West Jefferson are located in Ashe County. Mountain City and some of the lots in Sunalei Preserve are located in Johnson County, Tennessee. |
